Middle school
I spent my middle school life in China. I can still recall the moment that I was sitting in a classroom of 40 students, learning about some algebraic equations taught by my math teacher Ms. Wang. After delineating each equation in the lecture, she would always assign us endless math exercises and let us practice the knowledge points again and again until we familiarized them from our hearts. We had monthly exams to assess our understanding of the courses. And whoever gets the higher score at the exam could have a better ranking and receive more complimentary from the school.
College
After I graduated from high school, I went to a university in the U.S. A big difference between my prior educational experiences and it in college is that I was able to choose the courses according to my own interest. One of my memorable class is the Media and Social Change class which I took during my sophomore year. It was taught by my media professor Dr. Paul. I remember that besides the one-sided lecture, we’ve had a lot of interesting mutual discussions about the course topics and relevant social issues. College is more like a place where I learned the way of thinking rather just pure knowledge.
Professional setting
In the recent two years, I devote myself to use VR technology to improve all kinds of learning and training experience. Therefore, I’ve been taking a lot of relevant courses online to improve certain targeting skills such as instructional design and Unity development to reach my goals. Most of the online courses I took or I'm taking are developed by either technology corporations or colleges. And most of the time I need to complete the course by understanding all of the learning materials by myself, passing online quizzes, and working on Capstone projects.
